Hypotrichosis in the Australian Belted Galloway Herd

As identified in a recent Presidents Bulletin, Hypotrichosis, has been confirmed in the Australian Belted Galloway Herd.

Hypotrichosis is a autosomal genetic disorder which leads to animals with hair loss and subsequent environmental issues. Unfortunately it has no cure but can easily be prevented using genetic discipline.

Galloways Australia has published a presentation to provide members and interested parties our understanding of the disorder, the current Australian situation and our control objectives. We encourage all members to read about the disorder as widely as possible and take their own appropriate herd management actions. As an association we feel that it can be eradicated from the Australian Belted Galloway Herd.

For more information see our Hypotrichosis presentation or talk to one of our Committee Members.
