World Galloway Congress 2027 — Australian Members, Start Your Planning Now!
Fellow Galloway enthusiasts, mark your diaries — the World Galloway Congress 2027 is shaping up to be a once-in-a-lifetime event, and Galloways Australia members are warmly invited to be part of it.
Next year is no ordinary year for the breed. 2027 marks the 150th anniversary of The Galloway Cattle Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and what better way to celebrate a century and a half of our beloved breed than alongside fellow breeders from across the globe, in the very landscapes where it all began?
A tour to remember
The Congress kicks off in Belfast on Monday 2 August 2027, with delegates welcomed by a private tour of the Titanic Exhibition and a welcome dinner in the Titanic Quarter. From there, four outstanding farm visits showcase both Black and Belted Galloways across Northern Ireland, with side trips to the Giant’s Causeway and the Ulster American Folk Park woven in for good measure.
On Friday 6 August, delegates cross by ferry to Stranraer in Scotland, taking in a Dun and White Galloway herd before settling in at the beautifully refurbished Gretna Hotel as the tour’s central base.
The Dumfries Show brings together an exceptional display of Black and Belted Galloways, and on Sunday 8 August the Congress Conference includes a special address reflecting on 150 years of the Society — followed by a “Touch of Tartan” themed celebration dinner.
The tour then heads south into the Lake District, where farm visits highlight the increasingly important role Galloways play in conservation and countryside regeneration — a theme that will resonate with many Australian breeders working in similar landscapes. A lake steamer cruise rounds off this leg.
From there it’s east to Northumberland for more farm visits set against Roman history, before the grand finale on Wednesday 11 August in South West Scotland — two exceptional herds not featured in the 2016 Congress, both highly regarded at Castle Douglas and Carlisle, followed by a Farewell Gala Dinner.
New for 2027 — the Devon Post-Tour
For those wanting to make the most of the journey, a Post-Tour in the South West of England has now been confirmed, running 15–22 August. Hosted by breeders in Devon, it includes visits to North and South Dartmoor and Exmoor Forest Farm, with accommodation at the Two Bridges Hotel in Dartmoor National Park. A wonderful opportunity to extend your trip and see Galloways thriving in another remarkable corner of the British countryside.
Flexible options
Delegates can join the full tour, or choose either the Northern Ireland or Great Britain segment to suit their travel plans. More detail will follow as bookings open.
